RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Patina Grill at 3416 Lauderdale Drive in Henrico was previously a Hall of Fame winner.
"Somewhere in my trove of stuff, I have one of your plaques," said chef and owner Brian Munford.
We stopped by again after it had 5 critical violations on a state health inspection. The report says oysters, rice and chicken kabobs were not being kept cold enough in two refrigerators.
"We got a tech in to service the unit, and we thought we had it corrected. She came in to do a follow-up and it was still a degree off. So just a little bit high," explained Munford.
Munford had them repaired again, and showed us they now keep the proper temperature, "right at 40 which is where they want it," he showed us on a thermometer.
Munford also showed us how he keeps shellfish freshness tags with the shellfish now as the inspector requested, rather than in his office.
He says he works with the Health Department and that's why customers can expect clean, fine dining at Patina Grill.
In Chesterfield, Jersey Mike's Subs at 100 Heaths Way Road had 4 critical violations. The inspector wrote that the prime rib was not cooled fast enough to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. The manager points out that violations were corrected during the inspection and the restaurant had no critical violations on a follow-up inspection.
In Richmond, Penny Lane Pub and Restaurant at 421 East Franklin Street had 4 critical violations, including that containers of utensils were soiled to sight and touch. Penny Lane's owner and President Terry O'Neill sent the following statement:
"In our 34 years of operation, we have striven to meet and exceed all standards set forth by the Health Department. We appreciate the recent Health inspection which highlighted areas on which we can improve. All incidents were corrected during inspection, and we have taken the opportunity to update all of our training programs to ensure that we remain compliant with all future inspections."
While we were downtown, we hopped over to Globe Hopper Coffeehouse and Lounge at 2100 East Main Street to give it the NBC12 Hall of Fame Award. This coffee shop is known for serving serious espresso and earning perfect scores on health inspections.
