House fire in south Richmond

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Firefighters are investigating a house fire right now at an abandoned home in Richmond. Crews have brought in the K9, Ellie, to see if she pinpoint for investigators where the fire may have started.

It all started around 5:45 this morning in the 700 block of Hill Top Drive in South Richmond.

The home was vacant, and neighbors are tell us the homeowner was actually renovating the home. The roof of the home is gone.

When crews arrived on the scene, there was flames coming from all sides of the home and shooting through the roof.

The intense flames actually caused firefighters to corner off a collapse zone on one side the house. There was a concern that one of the walls was going to fall.

No one was injured. The smoke billowed up through the roof of the home for several hours. We're told the flames were mostly put out within 30 minutes.

There's still no word at this time what may have caused the fire. Crews are looking into the possibility the fire was accident, or an arson.
