HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - On August 8, just after 11 p.m., officers responded to the 1900 block of East Blackburn Road in reference to a domestic dispute.
Upon officers' arrival, Tyson open the door and officers detected a smell of heavy smoke and alcohol coming from inside the apartment. Tyson advised that he attempted to light a cigarette on the stove. Afterward, he simply walked away from the stove leaving it on, starting a fire.
Tyson had his 2-year old son in the apartment with him, and his son's clothing was wet with beer that covered a portion of the apartment floor. It was reported that Tyson made no attempts to remove the child from the apartment once the fire started.
The Division of Fire responded to extinguish the fire and to determine the cause. The mother of the child also responded to take custody of the child. Tyson, who was also determined to be intoxicated, was charged with child neglect. There were no injuries reported in this incident.
