RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - I don't know about you, but I have hit my limit on all of the debate about the debt ceiling. And now that we have raised the ceiling, Washington says they will now focus on Job, Jobs, Jobs.
I am not exactly sure where all of those jobs are coming from, but an email I received from a friend the other day got me to thinking about what we can do to preserve and increase jobs here in Virginia and in the U.S.
The next time you get ready to buy an item, check the label. Chances are it might not say "Made In the USA." Now I am not against free trade, but we do have choices that we can make. Think of the impact that can be made if we looked a little harder and made a conscious decision to buy or use a product that was Made in the USA.
Yes it takes a little more time to check the labels on a can or item of clothing and see what else is available, but think about the impact on local, state and national jobs. Just imagine that if a 100 million people made a $1 decision each week to choose Made In the USA, that would be over $5 billion towards jobs and the American economy.
So whenever you can, make the choice to buy local, support your local farmers and businesses. Keep the money in the community.
My grandfather, an old Jamaican man, used to say, "If I can buy Made In the USA, I can keep a dollar in my pocket."
I didn't really know what he was talking about then, but I do now.
