Henrico families 'Stuff the Bus'

HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - Some generous families came out Saturday to help provide school supplies for those who can't afford them. The goal was to "Stuff the Bus" with as many school supplies as possible.

Iris Rodrigiez donated several bags worth of supplies on her way out of the Short Pump Walmart in Henrico.

"It's good for the kids to go to school on the first day with materials they haven't used yet, and they don't have to worry about where the materials are coming from," Rodrigiez said.

The Stuff the Bus fundraiser is an annual effort by First Capital Bank. All the items and cash donations collected will go directly to the Henrico County Education Foundation.

"There are a lot of families in need and you can't succeed in life unless you have the right supplies," said Melissa Eck of First Capital Bank.

Donations poured in and included backpacks, binders, colored pencils and calculators.

Laurel Nay did her good deed by donating as well.

"If there are some kids that need something and they can't afford it then this program will give them the things that they need," said Nay.

And if you need a good reason to open your wallets for kids going back to school, Laurel said it best:

"Because, it's just a good thing to do!" said Nay.

There will be two more Stuff the Bus events during the next two Saturdays.

On Saturday, August 13, the bus will be at the Forest Hill Walmart. Then, on Saturday, August 20, the bus will be at the Chattanooga Plaza Walmart.
