RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Alison Brown loved buying school supplies-even before she had kids to buy them for. She'd purchase products just to donate. Last year she challenged her fellow frugal bloggers to see what they could buy for only ten bucks.
"I was somewhere in the 125$ range," said Frugal Blogger Tiffany Cutts.
"I got about $150 worth of school supplies and only spent ten dollars for it," said Eleanor Ross.
"$163 worth is what I collected," Alison Brown said.
And now they want see how good you are. Their challenge is now open to the public and there's huge incentive to get the most.
"We're going to provide a couple of gift cards for the prizes, $200 for the winner, $100 for 2nd, $50 for 3rd," said Carl York, Kroger's Advertising/Public Affairs Manager.
Plus, Kroger will match the donation, up to $1,000. Last year four bloggers spent $40and got more $500 worth of supplies. So what are their secrets?
"It's coupons combining with store sales, check out some of your specialty stores, your drug stores, grocery stores, special promotions," said Cutts.
"Make the most out of Catalina deals," Brown added.
"Shop the sales early. A lot of the places like Officemax, Office Depot and Staples are posting their sales out already," Ross said.
"I'm always willing to flex my coupon muscles and it really made us feel good to donate to other people," said Cutts.
"We'll bring a lot of people from Richmond together to help some kids that need it and get to meet some fellow people that love a deal and love to share a deal," Brown added.
You've got until August 25th to complete the challenge, so start looking for those bargains now.
