New voter cards sent to registered voters affected by redistricting

RICHMOND, VA –   Voters in districts with an August 23 primary, affected by changes due to redistricting, will soon receive new voter information cards.  The State Board of Elections started sending cards to affected voters this week. All voters needing cards should receive them by the middle of next week.

These voter information cards are only being sent to voters who live in localities with an August 23, 2011 primary that were impacted by redistricting.  There are fifty localities with primaries occurring on August 23.  Many voters eligible to vote in the August 23, 2011 primary will not receive a new card because they were not impacted by redistricting or by another change such as precinct changes or the establishment of a new polling place.

If no information has changed, such as a polling place or election district, then a voter will most likely not receive a new voter information card. However, it is still possible some voters not directly impacted by redistricting will receive cards.  If people have questions about the new cards they may contact the State Board of Elections at 804-864-8901 or their local voter registration office.   If they are uncertain if they are registered to vote they may check their voter registration status at
