COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WWBT) - Dr. James Bush is treating gastroenteritis at Colonial Heights Medical Center.
It is most commonly caused by a viral infection, but can be caused by bacteria. Some people refer to this as "stomach flu", but it is not actually related to the seasonal flu for which we give the vaccine each year.
Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, and diarrhea.
Symptoms often resolve on their own, but if you are unable to keep anything down and continue to have diarrhea, you should seek medical attention to prevent dehydration.
