New details in Chesterfield death investigation

Posted: Updated:

MIDLOTHIAN, VA (WWBT) - We're learning more from neighbors about the house on Mockingbird Lane that's been buzzing with police activity all weekend ever since a woman's body was discovered Saturday evening.

There's only about a dozen homes on this street so neighbors say they know each other pretty well. They say crime isn't common around there, but there have been problems in this home before.

A Chesterfield forensic team was still on scene Sunday, collecting evidence. Tom wouldn't tell us his last name, but he's lived in this neighborhood for more than 20 years.

He says he knew something was up when he caught a glimpse of police tape around his neighbor's house as he drove past.

"To find that there's a body on the back porch or the back deck under suspicious conditions does make you wonder what's going on," Tom said. "It's not something I would have ever dreamed of, that's for sure."

Police will only tell us at this time, the victim is a woman. She was found on the back porch of the home Saturday evening, by someone who lives there. She was already dead by the time police arrived.

"It's just not the kind of thing that you expect," he said. "It's not like, we haven't even had any break-ins or anything like that as far as I know in the last 20 years we've lived here."

Other neighbors say this isn't the first time this house has been the talk of the neighborhood.

"It's pretty quiet around here," said Trey Stevens. "There's nothing that really goes on over here except a couple times we've heard screams coming from the house late at night."

Police have not released the name of the victim. Neighbors say the owner of this home rents several rooms, so they're not completely sure who the victim might be.

"You do wonder who it is," Tom said.
