Ramp from I-295 to Route 1 back open after car-carrier fire

HENRICO COUNTY, VA (WWBT) - The access ramp from Interstate 295 to Route 1 southbound is back open after a car-carrier fire early this afternoon.

Shortly after 1:00p.m. this afternoon, Virginia State Police responded to a car-carrier fire on the access ramp of Interstate 295 to Route 1 north/south from Interstate 95 Northbound in Henrico County.  This is the access ramp which accesses Route 1 in both directions south of Virginia Center Commons, Exit 43 C.

The ramp re-opened shortly after 2:00 p.m.  The plan is for the vehicles on the car-carrier to be removed and loaded onto another trailer and not block the ramp while this takes place over the next couple of hours.  The burned trailer will be towed away from the scene after the vehicles are removed.

The driver, a 57 year old male from Yorktown, was traveling from Fredericksburg to Roanoke.  There were a total of 9 vehicles on the car-carrier and 4 were affected by the fire along with the car-carrier trailer.

There were no reports of injuries.  It appears the trailer brakes caught fire causing damage to at least four vehicles on the car carrier. Drivers are reminded to use caution while traveling through the area.
