RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Crown Royal "Your Name Here" race in Richmond is no more. The whiskey maker says it has a multiyear deal with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, to put their name on the Brickyard 400. That race will now be the Crown Royal "Your Hero's Name Goes Here" 400 at the Brickyard, starting in 2012.
For the last four years, the spring race at Richmond International Raceway had been named after a NASCAR fan or military hero. But Crown Royal's contract with RIR ended after last year, and the whiskey maker took their sponsorship to a new track.
Aimee Turner, Director of Public Relations for RIR, had to this to say via email:
"We've had fun promoting the "Your Name Here" 400 at Richmond International Raceway. Our track has a very unique brand positioning and this race added to the uniqueness of that brand.
"The "Your Name Here" 400 was not just a fun event to promote; it was a source of tremendous pride for us as a brand and a track promoter. We are proud of this promotion we developed and look forward to developing very similar fan friendly promotions in the future.
Richmond International Raceway is among the most popular motorsports venues on the NASCAR circuit and we are confident that future campaigns we develop will be equally successful for our corporate partners."
RIR is now looking for a new title sponsor for the spring race.
