No cash accepted overnight on Pocahontas 895

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Starting July 31st, Pocahontas 895 won't be taking cash and change anymore during the overnight hours.

"This is our lowest traffic period so this was...we thought this was going to be a more efficient way to collect the tolls," said Mary Ellin Arch of Pocahontas 895.

Arch says, if you don't have one already, now may be the best time to just get the E-Z Pass. It'll save you time. If you don't have one, you're other option is to use one of its new electronic card machines.

Here's how it'll work - once you drive up to the toll booth, enter what axle car you have - a regular passenger car or pick up will be a 2 axle vehicle. Once you do that, slip in your card - Visa or MasterCard - debit and credit only.

Pocahontas Parkway is a pricey toll road. Regular cars usually pay about $3 to access the 9 mile road.

For those living south of Chesterfield County, Pocahontas 895 is a quick route to the airport.

"If anybody has trouble with the machines the last thing we want is for anybody to miss their flight or to be late to their flight because of our machines," said Arch.

First time offenders get a break. As long as you call the offices of Pocahontas 895, they'll charge you the toll over the phone and not a penny more.

But if you are a repeat offender, you can get a penalty of $25 added to your toll bill.

Here are some numbers you should know:

Customers can contact Pocahontas in multiple ways: 804-822-3458 (or toll free at 1-866-428-6339)
