RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Cleanliness and temperature problems put some restaurants on the critical list. Here's a look at what the state Health Department says went wrong and what these eateries did about it.
We start in Richmond at McDonald's at 6808 Midlothian Turnpike, with 4 critical violations. The report says employees were scooping ice with a cup using their bare hands, which can contaminate the ice. All violations were corrected during the inspection.
Moving to Henrico, La Cabana at 4086 Crockett Street had 4 critical violations, including that foods in two refrigerators were not cold enough. The restaurant was re-inspected three weeks later and had all violations corrected but one, which was for some undated food.
And in Chesterfield, Jeff's Place at 20710 Bessie Lane with 4 critical violations. The inspector wrote that the potato slicer was soiled to sight and touch. But all problems were fixed. Jeff's place earned a perfect score on a follow-up inspection two weeks later.
This week's NBC12 Hall of Fame Award goes to Pirozzo's at 14846 Hull Street Road in Chesterfield. It serves authentic New York bagels and deli sandwiches, and is authentically clean, acing it's last three inspections in a row.
This weekend is your chance to sample the restaurants of Shockoe. "Sampling Shockoe" runs through Sunday. Participating restaurants are offering 3 course dinners for $30 and lunch for 10 dollars.
