RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - As the unprecedented heat wave continues, and with at least another month of summer weather, it is probably a good idea to be reminded of some of the issues that can crop up if you spend too much time in the extreme heat.
Dr. Rebecca Muminovic is warning about dehydration at Executive Health Group.
She warns that if you have to be outside be sure you are drinking plenty of water and electrolyte replacement drinks, especially if you are sweating because you are losing electrolytes as well as water in your sweat.
Listen to your body. If you feel lightheaded or over heated, stop and rest in a cool place and drink plenty of fluids.
If you become very lightheaded and/or black out, or if you stand up and feel very dizzy you have lost so much fluid that your blood pressure has been affected. If you have not urinated in at least 6 hours, it is time to call your doctor and seek medical attention.
