CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - In Chesterfield County, a man accused of leaving a dog to die inside a vacant house appeared in court.
A judge set a $10,000 bond for Darnell Drew, 19. He's charged with felony animal cruelty.
Police say Drew left a dog in a crate without a way to get to food and water. Police believe the dog died of starvation.
People who live on Appleford Court say they heard barking at the house, but didn't see anyone stop by to check on the dog.
If he does post bond, Drew must live with his mother in Richmond and not have any contact with companion animals.
At last check, Drew was still in jail. He'll be back in court in October.
