Man arrested in connection with Amtrak bomb threat

Press release from Henrico County Division of Police

HENRICO, VA - Henrico officers responded to the Amtrak Station on Staples Mill Road in reference to a complaint being investigated by Amtrak officials.  As officers arrived, Paul Warfield was being escorted off of the train carrying a backpack. Warfield was taken into custody after being ordered to put the backpack down.

Warfield, 45, of the 2400 block of Massanutten Terrace in Winchester, was charged with disorderly conduct and making a bomb threat.

The investigation revealed that Warfield made several statements to other passengers that he was going to "blow up" the train.  As the train approached the Staples Mill Road station, passengers complained to the train's conductor because of Warfield's increased agitation.

The train was evacuated and the Henrico Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team along with members of the FBI and ATF responded to clear the train, the station, and luggage.  Nothing suspicious was located.
