Missing Amelia County man found dead in truck

AMELIA, VA (WWBT) - After an attempt by the Amelia County Sheriff's Office to find a missing person has ended in tragedy.

After an extensive search, Stanley Gilbert Coon was found Tuesday afternoon around 1 p.m., deceased.  The cause of death is unknown at this time.

He was last seen at about 9 a.m. on Monday. He was leaving a jobsite in the Burkeville area of Nottoway County, heading east on Route 360, after complaining of feeling bad.

Coon was driving a blue/green and tan 1995 Ford Bronco with a Virginia license plate of KGD-2751. Coon never arrived home and has not spoken to his family members since then.

Coon is described as a 54-year-old white male, 6'03" tall and weighing about 215 lbs. He has graying brown hair and a gray beard. Coon was last seen wearing a Ropers Building Supply t-shirt, tan cargo shorts, brown boots and a baseball cap.

Currently involved in the search of Coon are Amelia County Sheriff's Office, Amelia County Emergency Management, Amelia County Fire Department, Virginia State Police and Nottoway Sheriff's Office.
