Golfers Prepare for VSGA State Open

Midlothian, VA (WWBT)- The VSGA State Open will tee off Thursday and several players who will be participating in this weekend's event were at Independence Golf Club for their Pro Am on Monday.

168 players will begin play on Thursday morning and the field will be trimmed to 70 following Friday's second round.  Defending champion and current Wake Forest player Evan Beck will look for his second straight title, but will face a talented field that features nine former champions.  Many PGA golfers will also be taking part in this event, as well as several local players.  Chester's Rick Schuller will tee off on Thursday morning.  He won the 1998 version of this event.  Midlothian's Tim White, Chesterfield's Steve Jenkins and Richmond's Jay Woodson will also be looking to compete for the championship.

The VSGA State Open will be held at Independence Golf Club for the fifth straight year.  Tee times begin at 7:30 am on Thursday morning.
