Richmond, VA (WWBT)- Former VCU star Eric Maynor returned to Richmond this week to compete in the Tri-Cities Summer League, being held at Big Ben's Court throughout the month. Maynor has spent the last two years in the NBA and is looking forward to growing as a professional, all while keeping an eye on his former program in Richmond.
Maynor now calls Oklahoma City home, where he is a point guard with the Thunder. Last week, the organization picked up a one year option on his contract, keeping him with the team for at least another season. This past season he appeared in all 82 games with the Thunder, averaging 4.2 points and 14.6 minutes per contest. Maynor says he's happy in Oklahoma City and looks forward to staying there. He says he loves his teammates and his coaching staff and that it's a good fit for him. One of those teammates is all-star Russell Westbrook, who Maynor shares time with at point guard. The former Ram says that he feels Westbrook is a great person to work with and he feels the two compliment each other well.
The former VCU star keeps tabs on his old team. He followed the Rams through their historic Final Four run this past season and thinks it's great that VCU accomplished something that no team in program history had ever accomplished before. Maynor thinks the program has reached new heights and is headed in the right direction.
Maynor is captain of a team in the Tri-Cities Summer League this season, which opened up Wednesday. Members of his team include VCU's Brandon Rozell, former Rams Larry Sanders and Jamal Shuler and former Boston College standout Tyrese Rice.
