RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Kickers blew out the expansion Dayton Dutch Lions the first two times they played them. The third time, Dayton kept it close for a half.
In sweltering heat on Monday afternoon, Richmond scored two second half goals to top Dayton 3-1. The Dutch Lions scored first, on a penalty kick in the 17th minute. But Richmond dominated play, and in the 30th minute Ryan Heins headed in a perfectly executed throw-in by David Bulow to tie the score at 1.
Eight minutes into the second half, Richmond got a penalty kick of its own, and Bulow took advantage to put the Kickers up 2-1. In the 74th minute, Edson Elcock put through the insurance goal to seal the victory for Richmond.
The Kickers are now 8-3-3 on the season, and 6-1-1 at home. Their next game is Friday night against Charlotte at City Stadium.
