HENRICO, VA (WWBT) - The skin is the largest organ of your body and as a result many things can go wrong.
Dr. Patrick Woodward is warning his patients about the dangers of skin infections.
Cuts, scrapes, bug bites and blistering sunburns all give bacteria an opportunity to invade underneath the skin and cause infection.
The keys to prevention are thorough cleansing of any wound with hydrogen peroxide or similar disinfectant followed by cleansing with antibacterial soap and water.
Cover with a clean gauze pad or bandage and use an antibacterial ointment until a scab forms. Once a scab forms, leave open to the air for best healing.
