Va man fined $250K for drawing gun on feds

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - An elderly Bumpass man has been fined $250,000 for pulling a gun on federal agents.

Joseph Henry Boggs Sr. was sentenced Friday in federal court after pleading guilty to assaulting, resisting and impeding a federal officer.

The 79-year-old owner of the Lake Anna Marina also was sentenced to five years of probation and one year of home confinement stemming from the May 2010 incident.

He was given leniency because of his age and health issues.

Boggs pulled a .38-caliber revolver on agents of the Defense Criminal Investigative Service when they arrived at his home while investigating his son-in-law.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that the agents drew their weapons in response.

No shots were fired. Boggs eventually lowered his gun. The Army veteran told the court he was ashamed and embarrassed.
