CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - We are learning more about the dog that bit and killed a 6-month-old baby boy in Chesterfield. NBC12 located the foster mom who placed "Polar," the American bulldog mix, with the family in the home on Overridge Drive.
Sochitl Rodriguez says they were a great match for the obedient dog. Polar had stayed with her for about six months after an abuse and neglect case in Georgia. In that time, she says the dog was never aggressive.
"I have a hard time believing that. It just doesn't seem like something that would ever fit Polar's personality. She was always a sweet dog no matter what situation you put her in," said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez confirms the dog was deaf. She wonders if Polar was trying to help the child in some way and hopes authorities will reconsider before euthanizing the dog. No criminal charges have been filed, but police say the case isn't yet closed.
