RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Keeping things clean. Two local restaurants received critical violations from the State Health Department for not doing that in this Restaurant Report.
The first is Shoney's at 7101 Staples Mill Road in Henrico, with 5 critical violations. A slicer was not clean. The manager tells us the slicer was not going to be used until it was cleaned, and that they had everything corrected for a follow-up inspection the next week.
The other cleanliness problem was at Leone Pizzeria and Sports Bar at 318 North Second Street in Richmond, with 5 critical violations, including that the food contact surfaces of Lexan pans, a slicer, and a dough maker were soiled to sight and touch. They were cleaned up, but the restaurant had 4 critical violations on a follow-up inspection. The manager tells us all violations have since been corrected and they have since earned a perfect score.
And finally in Chesterfield, Gino's Pizza and Italian Restaurant at 6429 Centralia Road had 4 critical violations. The report says pink eye and Visine drops were being stored in the reach-in cooler. That and other violations were corrected on the spot. Gino's had no violations on a follow-up inspection 10 days later.
A new lunch spot is opening in the financial district. Richmond BizSense reports that the owners of Olio in the Fan are opening a second location, Olio Downtown in the office building at 600 East Main Street. They'll serve up European soups and sandwiches starting July 16.
