RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - The Department of Education has released its look at college tuition costs.
Bottom line — going to college isn't cheap, and it will cost you a pretty penny to go to some schools here in Virginia.
University of Richmond is the most expensive in the state at $40,010.
Washington and Lee University in Lexington weighs in at $38,877.
These are just private, 4-year schools.
The Department of Education's lists track just how much money you would have to pay to go to the top five percent schools in several categories.
The only public school in the state to make any list was Christopher Newport University in Newport News. After scholarships and other assistance, tuition there is $15,948 — making it one of the most expensive public colleges to pay for out of pocket.
VCU, UVA, Virginia Tech, Virginia State and Virginia Union didn't make the list, meaning their tuitions aren't exceptionally high or low.
The cheapest colleges are in Puerto Rico — tuition is about $2,000 a year.
