Richmond, VA (WWBT)- The University of Virginia is in a rebuilding phase when it comes to football and, by the looks of things, it appears Mike London has the program moving in the right direction. Two area football stars now find themselves part of that hopeful winning equation in Charlottesville.
Varina High School players Maurice Canady and Tyrell Chavis have both verbally committed to London and the Cavaliers this month. Canady is an all-around athlete, excelling at several positions on both sides of the ball. Chavis makes noise on the offensive and defensive line for the Blue Devils.
Both Varina players head to a Cavalier team that finished 2011 with a 4-8 record in London's first season at the head of the program. London has put an emphasis on securing top recruits, most notably in the Tidewater area, but has put a heavier emphasis on the Richmond area as well.
Both Canady and Chavis are looking forward to joining the Cavaliers and feel they can help turn the program into a winner.
