COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA (WWBT) - Dr. James Bush is treating a scary sounding problem Ganglion cysts at Colonial Heights Medical Center.
They are also known as a "bible bumps" or "bible cysts". The cyst is a rubbery bump that is located at the wrist joint, frequently on the back of the wrist.
The bumps are filled with thick, clear fluid. They may cause some tenderness in the area, but do not appear red or infected.
Traditionally believed that people long ago treated them by hitting them with the family bible to drain them, though this is not recommended. An orthopedic surgeon can drain the cyst when necessary.
