Two-car crash in Powhatan kills one driver

POWHATAN, VA - A man is dead following a two vehicle crash that took place Friday morning June 24, 2011.  At 8:10 a.m., Virginia State Police Senior Trooper T. G. Watson was called to the scene on Route 60, Anderson Highway, approximately one mile east of Route 630, Ballsville Road.

A 1995 Honda Accord was traveling eastbound on Route 60 when the driver struck the rear of a 2007 Volvo Tractor-Trailer, which was stopped in the right travel lane.  The tractor-trailer driver was stopped at the time of the crash due to an active work zone.

The driver of the Honda, Matthew R. Pratt, 23, who was wearing his safety belt, died at the scene.  The driver of the tractor-trailer, Thomas W. Adams, 65, was not injured in the crash and was wearing his safety belt.

The Virginia State Police Motor Carrier Unit and the Powhatan County Sheriff's Office assisted in the ongoing investigation.  The roadway was re-opened at 10:30 a.m.
