RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Crews are going to be running some tests on the existing Huguenot Bridge, while moving forward with construction of the new one right next door.
The traffic delays start this weekend and will end in a few weeks on July 17. But there will be no construction during the July 4th holiday weekend.
This is just the latest delay for the project that won't be done until October 2013.
Starting Saturday, southbound traffic headed towards Chippenham from the Huguenot Bridge will be stopped in 10 minute intervals.
On Sunday, crews will be conducting routine safety inspections on the existing bridge.
This means, only one lane will be open, so flaggers will stop traffic on one end while allowing the other direction to pass, and vise-versa.
Road crews still have to maintain this existing bridge which is more than 60-years old.
But the frustration behind the wheel will be worth it when the new bridge opens with more driving lanes, sidewalks and bike lanes.
