Thefts from cemetery leads to arrest

PRINCE GEORGE, VA (WWBT) - Prince George County Police have arrested two women in connection with larcenies that spanned over the last two months at Southlawn Memorial Cemetery.

Arrested were 49-year-old Laura Faye Grammer of Petersburg and 23-year-old Tiffany Elizabeth Wade of Colonial Heights. 

Grammer is charged with grand larceny, petit larceny, and destruction of cemetery property.

Wade has been charged with petit larceny and destruction of cemetery property. Both were taken into custody and are at Riverside Regional Jail. 

Police were alerted of the thefts Tuesday by the caretakers of the cemetery. Items taken included solar lights, artificial flowers, and other memorial items placed at individual graves by loved ones. 

During the course of the investigation detectives discovered that the individuals may also be responsible for other thefts at cemeteries in the Tri-City area.

Many of the stolen items have been recovered and efforts are being made by the police to return the items to its rightful owners.

    Two people displaced after fire destroys Richmond home

    Two people are being helped by the Red Cross, after a fire broke out at their Richmond home. Crews tell us the fire broke out in the 5500 block of Campbell Avenue around 10:55 this morning. When they got on scene, fire crews saw flames coming from the back of the home. They were able to get the fire under control in about 15 minutes. Officials say everyone got out safely, but the damage was so bad, that a man and woman living in the home have to find a new place to live.
