Shooting at Belle Isle may have been self-inflicted

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – A person was shot on Richmond's Belle Isle just before 10 p.m. Tuesday night, but police now say its not clear if the wounds were self-inflicted.

The victim has two wounds, one in the leg and one in the buttocks. The injuries have been termed non life-threatening. Due to inconsistencies in the victim's account of what happened, investigators are taking a long look at the possibility the shooting was self-inflicted.

Tuesday night, police said a witness on Belle Isle saw several men they thought could be connected to this crime. Three men wearing swimming trunks and carrying towels were seen in the area heading toward Tredegar Street on the pedestrian bridge under the Robert E. Lee Bridge around the time of the shooting.
