RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - This morning, Greyhound kicked off a new express bus service in Richmond taking people to and from Newark, N.J., and New York, N.Y., three times a day for as cheap as $1.
The wheels are now in motion for you to cash in on another travel savings.
Loveasia Canton travels to the New York City area often. Today she didn't cash in on the new Greyhound ride. In fact, her trip so far has been pretty long.
"Look at me now. I look worn out, tired, I've been on a bus for 24 hours. If I had a non stop trip I'd be a little more glamour up right now," Canton said.
But that certainly will change soon, with this new option at her fingertips. "If it's faster service, it's cheaper, it's reliable because you won't have to make all the stops like I did today and I think it'll be more convenient," she said.
Greyhound, just like other mass transportation, is seeing an up tick in riders thanks to the higher gas prices this summer. But the company is not the first to offer a deeply discounted bus ride here in Richmond. About six months ago, the Megabus set up shop in Shockoe Bottom. Its buses are usually packed and the price too, as low as $1.
Loveasia says Greyhound's new service is now here to compete with others. "They figured they want to be on the market too. Now that everyone is at $1, you look at what's most comfortable? What has the best features as far as WiFi, big seats?"
Tough choices to make. But one decision that won't be too tough, possibly only paying a buck to get home.
If you want to take advantage of the cheap prices, you need to act fast. The price depends on the demand for each trip.
