Meeting on transformation efforts Tuesday night

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - We will learn more about a major project to transform Richmond's East End today.

The East End is filled with abandoned businesses and boarded up homes. It's an image city leaders want to change.

Bon Secours is donating $350,000 — money that will be used to help grow new businesses through low-interest loans.

It's a transformation plan that's been in the works for a year now.

Suggestions include turning key intersections into hubs of activity, creating a meeting area at 25th and Nine Mile and filling up vacant lots.

One planned project includes sidewalk and landscaping improvements along Nine Mile Road near Oakwood Cemetery.

For more information about this revitalization project and how to apply for the business loans, you can head out to the Robinson Theater tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. located at 2903 Q Street.

One of the simple goals of this project is to make the streets walkable again.
