'Suspicious barrel' in Prince George prompts investigation

PRINCE GEORGE, VA (WWBT) - A barrel washed up on shore of the James River near the Benjamin Harrison Bridge Monday morning prompting an investigation.

It happened in the 1100 block of Jordan Point Road.

County officials tweeted it was a 'suspicious 55 gallon black barrel' from the county's twitter account: @PrinceGeorgeVA. Emergency crews on scene determined quickly the barrel contained a liquid and it was not a hazardous situation because the barrel was sealed.

The Department of Environmental Quality responded to investigate the liquid. It was determined to be water. It's not known where the barrel came from.
