RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Part of Cary Street will be shut down Wednesday as the city continues floodwall testing in Shockoe Bottom.
Cary Street will be closed between 20th and 22nd Street from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is the area near the Virginia Holocaust Museum.
The closure could last longer if crews need to make repairs. For now, the best alternative is to use Main Street.
The floodwalls have been around since the mid 1990s and keep the James River from overflowing it's banks. So far, the city says the floodwalls have been doing their job. Wednesday's tests are only to ensure the walls continue to function properly.
