RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A familiar face is returning to the medium that made her famous and a format in which she thrives.
Popular television personality Leeza Gibbons has signed on to co-host "America Now," a new daily news program from Raycom Media and ITV Studios America. Gibbons joins Bill Rancic to headline the show that launches as a daily first-run series this fall starting September 12 at 3 p.m. on NBC12.
Produced by ITV Studios America and already a successful weekend series on Raycom stations, "America Now" is a 30-minute news program that will deliver short segments of timely information that's beneficial to viewers' lives. It will touch on topics that are lifestyle in nature, from health and beauty, to finance, family and home.
"I'm thrilled to return to television with a program that is meant to enhance the lives of viewers with information they can put to use immediately," said Leeza Gibbons. "Today's consumers have practically unlimited resources for information, but they have a finite amount of time. If we can help deliver succinct tools and advice that make viewers smarter, safer, stronger and more empowered, then we've done our jobs."
"We are very proud to welcome Leeza to our family to co-host America Now with Bill," said Paul McTear, President and CEO of Raycom Media. "Her experience with magazine shows and news content will add a vital new dimension to the program."
Gibbons is one of television's most popular talk show hosts, with a career that includes co-hosting "Entertainment Tonight" and being host and managing editor at "Extra," as well as executive producing and hosting her own NBC-syndicated talk show "Leeza." She currently hosts PBS' nationally-syndicated lifestyle television show, My Generation, recently nominated for a Daytime Entertainment Emmy – its first ever – in the Outstanding Lifestyle Program category. Off-screen, Gibbons is a tireless advocate for those touched by Alzheimer's Disease.
In honor of her mother, she's established the Leeza Gibbons Memory Foundation and Leeza's Place, a community gathering place that offers education, empowerment and energy for family caregivers impacted by chronic or progressive illness. Gibbons also continues to expand her Sheer Cover beauty product empire, the most successful line in its category.
"Leeza's extensive background as a talk show host, news reporter and social advocate makes her the ideal partner for us," said Paul Buccieri, CEO & President of ITV Studios America.
Since its debut in October 2010, "America Now" has dominated key time periods, grown from its lead in and matched the audience of early fringe viewers. The program utilizes the news resources of Raycom Media's 31 affiliates across the country, by incorporating stories from local stations combined with original content produced for the show. Currently airing on 43 stations in all 36 Raycom Media markets representing 13 percent of the country, "America Now" airs on powerhouse stations, including: WOIO in Cleveland, WBTV in Charlotte, WXIX in Cincinnati, WMC in Memphis and WAVE in Louisville.
