CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) - Police have still not positively identified the body discovered Monday afternoon in a parking lot at Koger Center on Midlothian Turnpike. But the car's owner claims it is most likely is her mother, 50-year-old Karen Campbell, who's been missing for more than a week.
Late Monday afternoon, I went to visit 50-year-old Karen Campbell's only daughter, Amber Young. They said they've been watching images our camera's captured earlier at the crime scene - on our news.
Police say Campbell was missing since June 3rd. Last seen driving a 2001 maroon Nissan Altima registered to her daughter Amber. Family friend Angela Cabe, spoke with us.
"Well, they said all signs point to it's her mom," Cabe said.
Police haven't positively identified the body, but Amber herself told us detectives already made a visit with her about the discovery.
"They just, they're just trying to cope with it right now and get all the facts first," said Cabe.
Earlier, most of what we saw was a blue tarp covering the back end of Amber's car. Police say the body was found in the back seat - what appears to be blankets covering the rear window.
A nurse who works nearby who did hear about the smell couldn't believe she could have passed that maroon car during her daily lunch time walks.
"Sad, I feel for her daughter. I feel for her family. It's a loss. It's a terrible loss, and a terrible way to find out that your loved one is gone," said Sherri Ruble.
There are still a lot of unanswered questions. Like how long as this car been there? Was there foul play? Is it Karen Campbell? We'll let you know of any new details as they become available.
