RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – Lawmakers on Capitol Hill will meet Monday afternoon to discuss the safety of tour buses following a series of crashes.
The meeting will focus on bus safety regulations and to determine if enough is being done to keep people out of danger.
Nearly two weeks ago, a tour bus accident in Caroline County killed four people and injured several others.
The driver of that bus, 37-year-old Kin Yiu Cheung, admitted to police that he fell asleep behind the wheel. At the time of the crash, the bus company, Sky Express, would have been shut down due to its safety rating. However, the transportation department had given the company time to appeal.
An NBC12 crew will be in Washington D.C. for the hearing and will provide updates throughout the day.
