RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – A Charles City mother is desperately trying to find her missing teenager Sunday.

The Sheriff's Office said 17 year-old Cierra Powell was last seen getting into a white pickup truck with half a dozen men she didn't know near Brown's Island last Friday.

Cierra went to play in the James River downtown with some friends last Friday and now no one has heard from her for over a week.

Rebeca Farmer spent the afternoon passing out flyers with Cierra's picture on it, hoping someone may have seen something that could help bring Cierra home.

"I'm trying to get any information," Farmer said.  "Anybody that knows anything, even if they think it's not that important, it could be and I just want them to look at her face."

Her friends tried to convince her not to leave with the pick-up full of strangers, but Cierra wouldn't listen.

"(Her friend) told her, 'no, you came with me, you'll stay with me'," Farmer said.  "And she said, 'you're not my dad' and she left."

No one has heard from her since.

Farmer said Cierra ran away from home about three years ago and was gone for five days, but that Cierra's wilder days are behind her and their relationship had been picture perfect.

"The very last thing she said to me was, 'I love you Mama'," Farmer said.  "She even cut it in my grass with the lawnmower, 'I love you' the day before she left. We're very tight."

But Farmer says her daughter is a follower and not a leader and may have left with that pick-up full of strangers on a whim. Sunday she gave flyers to one group that offered to pray with her for Cierra's safe return. She is hoping a prayer or one of these flyers will help her find Cierra.

"I never knew what love was until the day I had her, the day I looked into her eyes when I had her," she said.  "It's gone. I just want to know she's ok and I want her to know I love her and I'm never, ever, ever, ever giving up on her, no matter what."

Cierra said she wanted to go to New York shortly before she disappeared and now police all up and down the East Coast are now looking for Cierra.

Cierra is 5'6'', 108 lbs, with brown hair, brown eyes.

Deputies say she was last seen leaving the island in the bed of a white Dodge Dakota truck.

If seen please contact the Charles City Sheriff's Office at (804) 829-9265 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.
