I-95 re-opens after crash closes all lanes for nearly two hours

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – A car accident shut down I-95 Saturday night for nearly two hours.

Around 9:30 p.m. police say a northbound car went off the road and hit the jersey wall.

When State Police responded they discovered the driver inside the vehicle with a gun pointed at himself.

Richmond and State Police then closed all lanes of travel to secure the area.

Police say the driver surrendered to police around 10:30 p.m. and was taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

The interstate was re-opened a short while later.

The 28-year-old driver is now in police custody.
