WASHINGTON (AP) - Denard Span scored from second on third baseman Jordan Pacheco's throwing error in the ninth inning, and the Washington Nationals stretched their winning streak to 10 games with a 1-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. Rafael Soriano pitched a scoreless ninth for the Nationals.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Tamika Catchings had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Indiana Fever to a 78-73 win over the Washington Mystics on Thursday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Ivory Latta scored 22 points for Washington, and Emma Meesseman had 17.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - New Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden is more of a night owl than an early bird, but he's no Joe Gibbs. Gruden says he doesn't plan to spend the night at Redskins Park, as Gibbs did so often during two stints coaching the team. Says Gruden: "I need my sleep."

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) - Baltimore's defensive line has been hit hard by injuries, hard enough to give the Ravens reason to be concerned. The Ravens have already lost two defensive linemen to season-ending injuries, and nose tackle Terrence Cody remains sidelined after hip surgery. That doesn't leave much depth behind starters Chris Canty and Pro Bowl pick Haloti Ngata.
