RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - For only the third time in his career, John Rollins will not be playing in this year's U.S. Open. The VCU grad failed to qualify at this week's sectionals in Columbus, OH.
Rollins had to finish in the top 16 to make it to this month's event at the Congressional. He shot a 3-under 141 over the two rounds, finishing in 36th place. Virginia Tech product Johnson Wagner and UVA graduate Steve Marino were also trying to qualify in Columbus, and failed to do so.
Rollins has three PGA Tour victories, but only one since 2006. Rollins failed to make the U.S. Open in 2002, and then again in 2009. His best finish is 42nd in 2007.
This has been a rough year for Rollins. He has made just 7 cuts in 15 PGA Tour events, and has just one top 10. He currently sits 109th in FedEx Cup points.
