Stone Soul organizers encouraging attendees to vote

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) – If you're looking for some fun in the sun, food and good music you'll want to head to Stone Soul Saturday on Browns Island! This year more than 12 artists are scheduled to perform, but organizers are spreading an important message.

They're expecting record numbers at Stone Soul this year. Tickets were being sold at places like BK Music and DTLR. This year organizers are speaking to the large crowds and using this opportunity to show the importance of voting.

In less than 24 hours Browns Island in Richmond will be packed with thousands of people attending Stone Soul's Music and Food Festival. This major music event has become a big hit here in Richmond and this year especially organizers have a big message.

"It's a huge voter election year that's coming up November 8th so we want to encourage folks to get out and get registered to vote," said radio personality, Clovia "Miss Community" Lawrence.

Lawrence is using this opportunity to show people the importance of voting.

"It's your voice, it's your right, it changes things and every year in the Commonwealth of Virginia, because we're for the people by the people, we have elections every year!" she added.

The kid friendly event put on by Radio One here in Richmond will feature performances by Elliot Yamin, SWV, Dru Hill, Jagged Edge, Rick Ross and many more. Now in its seventh year, Stone Soul has become an event radio personalities like Sean Anthony the Hip-Hop Motivator look forward to. He had this advice for first timers.

"Bring water. Drink lots of water," said Anthony. "This year the weather is going to be absolutely gorgeous. It's not going to be too hot. But I would still say bring lots of water bring your chairs just sit down and enjoy yourself!"

And while everyone is enjoying themselves, Radio One hopes its message is heard.

"We don't wait until September or October to start voting," said Lawrence. "Every opportunity we get with a large crowd or on our radio stations we're talking about driving the vote to the polls."

Ticket sales at BK Music ended Friday, but you can still purchase some online for just $32. Stone Soul is being held at Browns Island Saturday from 12-8pm. Kids 5 and under are free. For more information just go to http://ipowerrichmond.com/category/stonesoul/.
