GLOUCESTER, VA (WWBT) - The Gloucester County man accused of caging his daughter in a crib appears in court.
In April, investigators arrested both Brian Gore and his wife Shannon after deputies say they found the couple's starving 6-year-old daughter in a homemade crib-cage.
Brian Gore's attorney wants to see if his client is mentally competent to stand trial.
Gore appeared in Gloucester County juvenile domestic relations court Thursday. His attorney filed motions to figure out whether he can claim to be mentally incompetent.
Brian Gore and his wife Shannon were arrested after deputies found the couple's 6-year-old daughter starving and caged in her own waste. The child weighed only 15 pounds and was near death.
Another child's remains were found buried underneath a shed on their property, and may have been there since 2007.
The motion raises the possibility that Brian Gore might plead guilty by reason of insanity.
But Gloucester's Commonwealth's Attorney doesn't believe Gore is insane.
In another matter, the Department of Social Services continues trying to strip the Gore's of all parental rights in civil court.
The Gores will be back in court on August 2 for a preliminary hearing.
