Man rescued from James River

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Crews in Richmond pulled a man from the James River early this morning. The rescue happened near the Robert E. Lee Bridge.

Police tell us a passerby heard someone yelling for help, and called 911. When crews arrived they found a man in his mid 30s on a rock.

According to Battalion Chief Rob Baumgardener it appears, the man decided to just take a dip, "police found his shoes and clothes on the shore, it appears he just jump in the water and went for a swim."

The man was taken to the hospital. Police say alcohol was not a factor.

He is expected to be okay.
