RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A North Carolina bus company is shut down this morning after the deadly bus crash yesterday in Caroline County.
Federal regulators have taken Sky Express Bus Service off the roads because of multiple safety violations.
The order came from the U.S. Department of Transportation following a full compliance review of Sky Express.
The probe found multiple violations in the areas of driver qualification requirements, drug and alcohol compliance, hours-of-service and vehicle maintenance.
The bus driver, Kin Yiu Cheung, 37, is charged with reckless driving after the crash killed four women and injured dozens of others.
Virginia State Police say driver fatigue caused the crash.
A passenger we spoke with says Cheung swerved and lost control after falling asleep at the wheel.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating all safety aspects of the deadly crash while Virginia State Police conducts the criminal part of the investigation, both of which will continue today.
A team who inspected the bus ruled out any mechanical errors as contributing factors.
