School bus crashes into parking lot on Commerce Road

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - An accident involving a moped and a school bus has one person injured in the 1800 block of Commerce Road in South Richmond, according to authorities.

A Richmond school bus driver was taken to VCU Medical Center. Her granddaughter was taken from scene by her parent.  This child is not a Richmond Public Schools student.  The bus was on its way to Armstrong High to pick up students to take home.

The driver of the moped, Timothy Godley, 41, of Chesterfield was charged with reckless driving. Godley is accused of failing to yield to the bus.  The bus driver overcorrected, cross the median and ran into a power pole and fence and parked truck on the Colonial Ford truck lot on Commerce Road.

The southbound side of Commerce will be closed through rush hour. The accident occurred at 1:54 p.m.

An RRHA officer saw the ax, caught the moped driver, closed down the road so no one else would get hurt.
