Six-year-old girl ejected from car after alcohol related crash

PETERSBURG, VA (WWBT) – A young girl is expected to survive after being thrown from a car that collided with a tractor trailer.

It happened around 9:30 Friday evening in the northbound lanes of I-95 near the Wagner Rd. exit.

Police say 23-year-old Lee Soloman was attempted to pass the semi when he struck the rear end of the truck.

His vehicle then ran off the road and flipped several times.

Soloman was taken to Southside Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

The six-year-old girl and another passenger were both flown to VCU Medical Center with what police say are serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police say alcohol and speed are factors in the crash.

Soloman now faces DUI charges as well as failure to properly secure a child under the age of eight.

Police say more charges may be pending following a full investigation.
