RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Russell Wilson is a wanted man. But the Collegiate School product has many decisions to make regarding not only where he wants to play, but what sport he wants to play.
Monday, University of Wisconsin Offensive Coordinator Paul Chryst visited with Wilson's high school coach Charlie McFall to find out more about Wilson's past. McFall says Chryst was just looking for as much background information as he can about the former North Carolina State quarterback. Wilson has a visit planned at Wisconsin for next month. He also visited Auburn earlier this week.
Wilson was released of his scholarship at NC State when Coach Tom O'Brien chose to go with another quarterback. That was partly because he wanted to give confidence to that QB, but also because he was tired of Wilson not being around campus.
Wilson was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in last year's draft. He has been playing for the Asheville Tourists, but has struggled - hitting just .230. The Rockies' director of player development said this week that Wilson may not be welcomed back to the team if he left to play football.
But McFall wants to see Wilson get another chance at football anyway. He understands why O'Brien made his decision to move on, but he believes that Wilson can still be an elite college quarterback and get drafted by the NFL.
