VCU product Sizemore traded to the A's

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - A former VCU baseball player has a new home team. The Detroit Tigers today they've traded former Ram Scott Sizemore to the Oakland Athletics for left-handed pitcher David Purcey from the Oakland Athletics.

Additionally, the Tigers today recalled the contract of infielder Danny Worth from Triple A Toledo.

Sizemore said his agent told him he's being assigned to Oakland's Triple-A team.

Purcey appeared in nine games with Oakland this season after he was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays in a two-player deal on April 18, 2011. He compiled a 2.13 ERA, fanned seven batters and limited opponents to a .191 batting average during his stint with the Athletics.

Throughout this month, the Tigers have consistently maintained the worst bullpen ERA in the American League. It was 5.85 entering Friday.

Sizemore batted .222 with a double and four RBIs in 17 games with the Tigers this season after having his contract recalled from Toledo on May 3. In 23 games with Toledo this season, he hit .408 with seven doubles, a triple, two home runs and 15 RBIs.
